Bengaluru saw a fitting finale to the Kannada Rajyothsava month, as
Palace Grounds came to life on Saturday to mark the inauguration of Dr
Rajkumar Memorial.
The event titled Amara Jeevige Namana was attended by celebrities from the Kannada film fraternity and was witnessed by thousands of people who thronged the venue to get a glimpse of the stars.
The show, organised under the guidance of director S Narayan, spoke about the glorious life of Rajkumar, who started out as an actor and over the years, became an icon of Sandalwood.
The fun-filled evening saw many celebrities shaking a leg to famous songs of the legend. The highlights included a performance by Ambareesh and his wife Sumalatha to Nee bantu nintaga; Ganesh and Amulya’s Naa ninna mareyalaare; Naaniruvudu Nimagaagi by Ravichandran and team; and Le le le appana magale by Yash, Rachita Ram and team. Arjun Sarja and Haripriya danced to the tunes of Endendu ninnanu maretu, while Ramesh Aravind and Shruthi performed to Hrudayadali idenidu. A dance performance by Vinod Raj and team to Hrudaya samudra kalaki was much appreciated by the crowd.
The event concluded with Shivarajkumar and Puneeth Rajkumar taking centre stage. Shivarajkumar performed to the songs Jagave ondu ranaranga, Kannadada maathu chanda and Shiva shiva. He was joined by Upendra and Rachita Ram. After the act, Upendra said, “Every time I met Rajkumar, I felt as if my battery was charged.”
The audience waited in patience till the end to watch Puneeth on stage. The star danced to Kannalli yeno minchondu kandithalla, Chandira thanda hunnime rathri and Belli mudithu.
Proud of Darshan and Sudeep, tweets Sumalatha
Actors Darshan, Shivarajkumar, Ambareesh and Arjun Sarja posed for a picture with Sumalatha at the event, giving us the impression that all is well between them. Later, Sumalatha tweeted, “Industry is one...others..pls stop sensationalising...proud of darshan n sudip for disproving all rumors (sic).” We hope the differences between the actors are resolved now.
Why didn’t they dance?
The crowd went into a frenzy when Sudeep and Darshan took to the stage for one of Rajkumar’s songs, Bhagya ennale punya ennale. But within minutes, the cheers died as the actors did not dance, waved to the crowd and disappeared. Shouts of disappointment were heard from the audience.
